INTRODUCTION
The Shadow of the Rose is not a name most in Nastiabach would know about, it is not the type of group that people discuss in hushed revered tones like some of the other assassin orders in the world. But for those that do, they say that the Shadow employs women, especially women whose own beauty can enthrall a man. What is known and reported is that victims of the group are almost exclusively high value male targets within Nastiabach society, lords, politicians, business owners and more. Assassins will get close to their targets using their charms and looks and then execute. To date, no woman has ever been arrested in connection with the Shadow of the Rose.
CHARACTERISTICS
Poisoned Beauty
Vathrian nations are no stranger to secretive orders tasked with spying or killing. Most will employ or recruit members of all races, shapes and sizes. The Shadow of the Rose however is different that its assassins are primarily women, beautiful women. These trained killers are special in that they are trained from very young ages in a manner of varying skills, from dance to art and languages. The desire is for each assassin to become a perfect weapon that no man can resist. When a name is given, a member of the group will begin to attach herself to the target and make herself indispensable. By the time the victims however are discovered dead, the assassin is long gone. These women are masters of cunning and disguise, with an ability to blend in with whichever situation or event they may find themselves in. From a young age, they are raised to learn martial arts, bladed and poisoned weapons, plus the lessons of high society. It is not uncommon for assassins of the order to perform in great works of theatre and ballet, or to have accomplished great deeds that make the men of high society desire them. These women will often have many admirers, but remain steadfast in their mission. They do not falter, and they do not fail.
HISTORY
Age of New Kingdoms
Nastiabach over the years has endured numerous terrible trades, from the acts of slavery and kidnapping across the region and other regions of the continent. Women and children are often advised to stay indoors after sunset or stay in groups to avoid being potentially taken, but always throughout the Age of New Kingdoms would a parent scream in the nighttime that their son or daughter had been taken. Everyone knew someone who had experienced the criminal gangs, but very little was done against them. Sometimes children were taken and sold or worse. Then began the whispers that some children, girls especially were disappearing in far greater numbers. Eventually these sensationalist stories died down, as peace in the land grew more constant, the fear of these criminal gangs lessened. In high society many young well to do men would court their sweethearts, as young couples did across Vathria and life seemed good and normal to most. However, tragedy seemed to strike and piece by piece a pattern began to emerge. Men were being murdered. Cut, stabbed, poisoned, bludgeoned, and worse. Men who had only recently been seen on the arm of pretty young things, women of Nastiabach who excelled in the world of men, women who were pursued, and women who disappeared when news of murder reached the streets.
The Current Age
Women of the Shadow of the Rose are exceptional at what they do. So much so that years after the orders creation, the public at large still do not suspect that a number of young female socialites of Nastiabach are secret assassins. By day they are enigmatic, they play music, paint, and generally appear to be nothing more than well to do ladies in society. By night, they unleash their true training upon their victims following weeks of meticulous planning and research to ensure they can find themselves alone together. Recruitment generally is reserved for young children to be trained in the way of the order, however recently shockwaves have been generated within the organization itself as the Champion Nikita found herself invited to become one of them. She is fierce and talented in all manner of skills. A true perfect fit for the Shadow, though her training unwittingly comes from her own terrible experiences as a kidnapped child in Nastiabach. It seems that in this region, the paths of fate are regularly entwined.
The Ages yet to come
The histories of tomorrow are awaiting an author, one who would tell the stories of the heroes and events not yet known. Women taken from their families as children and turned into weapons is one of the great secret tragedies of the Vathrian lands, and has persisted for many years. The future of these beautiful and deadly vipers is unclear as they continue in their practice though some hope that change may come from the women within. However for now, those stories are unwritten and the outcomes unknown as the looming threat grows larger across Vathria. . .
