INTRODUCTION
'Might and magic through sheer cold and perseverance'
The College of Frostfort was founded millennia ago by the Falke family of Mt.Mavak. An ancient family line, the Falkes in one form or another have maintained control over the region of Frostfort with their impressive skills of Ice magic. Mages across Vathria over the years have called Frostfort Academy their home in an effort to learn the secrets of ice magic and improve their own abilities in the mystical arts. The power balance of magical schools however created an imbalance and eventual stagnation as the College of Frostfort has had dwindling numbers of students in recent years and limited numbers of new discoveries in magical research. This stagnation prompted the some within the college to launch a raid on the Faymalia Academy of Falendria in an effort to steal a precious relic of the Elves. The raid was successful however in its aftermath, war erupted between the two nations and relations have been strained since.
CHARACTERISTICS
Northern Might
In times long past, when the first settlers came to the lands of Mt.Mavak, they stumbled upon a secret. The ice around them hummed with magical properties that over time the people learned to wield in a limited fashion. Little could truly be achieved with the ice until Cassian Falke, the then Patriarch of the Falke Family discovered how to control it. He realized that the magic's within the ice could be harnessed and honed to do the bidding of those who demanded it, not submitted to it. Unlike the magic's of the South, where a harmonic resonance was found between the magic user and the magic, the permafrost of the North was hard to control and required strength and fortitude to master it. It needed to be forced and Falke saw its potential dedicating a school to channeling it. His reasons were ingenious, as the Falke family were not the most powerful House that had made the journey to the North. House Isdottir, Mt.Mavak's most powerful family ruled the land without the powers of magic. Their strength lay in their prowess in battle and their skills in diplomacy and House Falke was desperate to change the balance of power in their favor. Cassian managed this through the creation of Frostfort, an academy whose power would be sought by the people of Vathria who considered themselves worthy of overcoming the cold. As the years passed by, Frostfort Academy and the Falke name became prominent features in the ruling councils of Mt.Mavak's political structure. While House Isdottir continued to rule in name, many considered the Falkes and Frostfort to be the true power in the Northern region.
HISTORY
Age of New Kingdoms
- The War of the Arcane Gem
Unlike the open nature and proud collaboration between Sovereign Shores and Faymalia in the running of Falendria Academy, Mt.Mavak's Frostfort College is relatively secret in its practices and research. The Falke family prefer not to share or discuss research beyond the walls of the college and have generally built a reputation of hoarding knowledge. Four mages deep within the bowels of the college came up with a plot, to steal the precious Arcane Gem and use it to bring glory back to Frostfort. It had to be done in secret, nobody in the upper ranks of the college could know, the Falke family would need to have deniability and so the plan was put into action. The director of Falendria, the Champion Trelladom, welcome the delegation with open arms. To have mages of Frostfort attend the Elven lands was an honor. The honor however would be short-lived as not long after their arrival a great theft occurred. The Elves were in outrage as the mages of Frostfort Academy made away with their prize, though none from Mt.Mavak would ever acknowledge the fact. The Falke family and the elders of Frostfort condemned the accusations of Trelladom and the Elves. The Arcane Gem was secreted away into the depths of the college and great new wonders were discovered.
War broke out between the two nations, which proved costly in life and in coin. Fortunately for Mt.Mavak they had predicted that the magical oversight Faya-Aes would not get involved in the dispute as it would only lead the continent into a unified war against Mt.Mavak. The alliances declined to participate and Falendria Academy and Faymalia were left to handling the conflict by themselves. This gave Mt.Mavak and Frostfort a chance. Five years later and a truce was finally reached. However the Arcane Gem, would not be seen again in Faymalia.
The Current Age
- The Vikoya Sisters
Following a broken childhood hidden from view following the death of her father, the Champion Annika Vikoya assumed the role of head of her house after her mother's death. Locked away in the family home for many years after accidentally killing her father, Annika never learned how to control her raw power. She tried to hide from it, lest she unleash the wrath of the lightning upon her loved ones once more. Fate however found her and after being exposed as the lightning mage and culprit of her father's death she fled with her sister, the Champion Lena Vikoya. The pair left their family estate, pursued by those who wished Annika harm, they made an agreement, to travel together to Frostfort and learn magic. Their plan was thwarted and the two separated though during their journey during an attack where Lena believed Annika had been killed. To honor her sister, Lena made her way to Frostfort Academy alone and heartbroken. Lena pledged to learn the ice magic and return to her home to oust those who had forced her and Annika to flee. Lena however struggled to control the power of the Northern magic. She failed repeatedly to wield it and came close to leaving the college entirely having built up a reputation for being talentless with magic. She withheld her true identity to others and so most saw her as a useless fool of no real value, though some took notice. She began to receive private lessons from an old friend Nico Falke who also studied at Frostfort and once upon a time held desire in his heart for Lena. He was capable at harnessing ice magic and pragmatic in his ability to teach. He wanted to show off to the young Vikoya girl, he wanted to impress her and prove that he could make her into something more. He built Lena into a weapon, and the scared heartbroken girl who entered Frostfort was no more. Unfortunately for Nico's advances, Lena began to hear whispers on the wind, and talk around the college that Annika may have survived, rumors of a powerful and fierce lightning mage began to permeate through the lands and Lena needed to know if it was her sister. She took her abilities and her new found strength and departed from the safety and insular world of Frostfort in search of answers, leaving the Falke boy in the snow. Without her Nico pushed himself harder in the daily running of Frostfort Academy and following his time teaching and his family's connection to the institution. He assumed the role of Faculty head and began his tenure as one of the most powerful men in Mt.Mavak.
The Ages yet to come
The histories of tomorrow are awaiting an author, one who would tell the stories of the heroes and events not yet known. Frostfort Academy continues to make progress in its magical research thanks to their acquisition of the Arcane Gem, though with the political upheaval in Mt.Mavak they are being petitioned by various houses to lend support and assistance which is causing concern. The Falkes are strong thanks to the college but they cannot predict the future. However for now, those stories are unwritten and the outcomes unknown as the looming threat grows larger across Vathria. . .
