Overview
The Dragonkin are children of Leitos and the
Dragons. They were made to act as the Dragons' servants and care for them as they protected them in turn. Since the Heavensblight and the end of the Dragon reign, the Dragonkin have strived to revive the great beasts and restore their empires once more.
Culture
A significant aspect of Dragonkin culture in the last thousand years revolves around the power struggles in
Torvala and the constant conflict against the
Humans of the region. The Dragonkin, therefore, created the
Sunseer Sect to push soft power across the region. This has resulted in a great cultural shift in Torvala as the religion has spread. When people think of the Dragonkin now, they immediately associate the race with the Sunseers.
The Dragonkin believe that the behavior of all individuals in the group affects the clan. That behavior that discredits the clan's honor will result in expulsion and exile. At the same time, this requires that the Dragonkin demand that each individual be clear about their identity and responsibilities within the clan and take pride in performing their duties. As a result, racial governance within the Dragonkin proceeds in an orderly manner according to the rules that have survived from the time of the Empire, and there are very few incidents of infighting.
Government
Officially, politics are separate from religion, though to look beneath the surface, it is clear that the Sunseers are a capable and effective political regime that has wrestled control of Torvala from the Humans since its inception and spread. The Human King is the governor of daily affairs, while spiritual power is held in the hands of the Dragonkin Sun Priest, the leader of the Sunseers. Despite Torvala having a Human King, most would consider the Sun Priest to be the kingdom's true ruler. That has been a point of contention between the races for centuries, and sporadic fighting occurs.
