REGION OVERVIEW
Torvala is a desert nation in the south of Vathria. Though the seas of the Splintered Coast stretch along its northern border, water is scarce in the land and temperatures can be extreme. It is home to two main races, the Humans and the Dragonkin. Throughout the years, the two races have clashed over control of the land. The Dragonkin utilize the Sunseer Sect religion to dominate the Humans who they feel are inferior to the children of the Dragons.
GEOGRAPHY
Torvala was once a green and lush region ruled by Dragons and the Dragonkin. This changed following the War of the Gods when the landscape of Torvala changed forever. As Leitos and the Dragons died, so did the greenery. Currently, the region is a vast desert. Most of its landscape includes sand dunes, sand seas called ergs, barren stone plateaus, gravel plains, dry valleys, and salt flats. Almost two thirds of the desert is sand dunes, some of which reach over 500ft in height.
DEMOGRAPHIC
The majority of the Human population live in the west of the nation, in large cities and towns with relative proximity to the coast. Ki'tu, the capital city is an almost other world in comparison with the barren lifelessness of the deserts outside. Hundreds of thousands of people live in the great cityy. While other races exist in the land, the majority race of these settlements is Human. The Dragonkin are larger, stronger, and live longer than the Humans that share the region. They have historical claims to the land but the Humans consider it theirs. Humans outnumber the Dragonkin ten to one. Dragonkin worry that Human dominance will come not from conflict, but from their large populations forcing the Dragonkin out.
RULING
King Valaris rules the land as the Human representative of Vathrian unification in Torvala. He rules with decree sent by Sovereign Shores and is content to allow local regional chiefs and members of the Sunseer Sect carry out legislation and policy enforcement.
Most in the nation, and even many outside Torvala, see King Valaris as a lame ruler. Even King Abellon of the Sovereign Shore understands that the true power in the southern lands is the Sunseer Sect and their leader Rhazma, the Sun Priest. Rhazma is the leader of the nation in all but name, wielding the religion as a cudgel against those who might disrespect its teachings.

MAIN BELIEFS
The Sunseer sect is a Torvalan religious organization, noted for its zealotry and devout worship of the sun. The religion was established by the Dragonkin of the region, to honor the God Leitos and subjugate the Humans of Torvala. The leader of the Sunseer sect is the Sun Priest, Rhazma. While Torvala holds its own government and King, almost all Torvalans believe it is the Sunseer Sect who truly rule the land. The Dragonkin control the upper echelons of the Sunseer Sect and use their positions to wield power over the Humans of Torvala. Across Torvala, many people believe that their souls are reunited with Leitos in death. The Sunseer Sect has championed mummification after death. Even outside the Sect, not providing mummification for a person when they die is blasphemy. The gap between wealthy and poor in Torvala is vast. Education is primarily enjoyed by the nobility. The Sunseer Sect provides education to the common people, which in turn gains the trust of the lower classes.
ACTIVE FACTIONS
CLIMATE
Torvala experiences extreme heat which can be deadly if a person does not take precautions. The Human populace tend to wear loose fitting white robes to accommodate the heat and keep themselves cool. Ice is a rare luxury, but those with the means and coin have grand blocks of ice brought down from Mt. Mavak to cool their beverages. To lose track of the trading roads in the desert is to invite death. The evenings in the desert can become bitterly cold with below freezing temperatures. The unwary can burn or freeze depending on the time of day, and only the hardiest can make a life in the desert.
