Naga
RACES
Overview The Naga are a race of sea dwellers living deep below the waves of the Splintered Coast. The region's stories suggest that the Naga are former Elves and Humans who forsook the surface world by rejecting humanity and embracing the deep. The myths of the Naga say they were transformed into fish-like creatures by the half-God Elfath. Parents of the Splintered Coast use the Naga as a tale of horror, usually to make children come home for supper before sundown or to go to bed at a reasonable hour. They warn their children that the Naga will come for them and drag them down to the bottom of the sea should they not do as their parents say. The reality is that while the Naga exist, they prefer to stay deep in their kingdoms below the waves, leaving the surface world to the surface of people. They have grown great cities and thrive far away from the war and destruction of the surface dwellers. Despite many considering them a myth, some believe devoutly in the Naga and will wade into the waters, hoping to become one. These people have never seen again, though whether they drown or are transformed into one of the sea people is unknown. Culture The Naga are devout believers in Asteria and have within them an ultimate goal of saving her from the prison she resides in. Though this is a central belief system of the Naga, their daily living and society are rich in the culture of the sea. They have an empire in the deepest trenches and recesses of the world where no living creature from the surface could ever hope to venture. Without war or fear of invasion, the Naga have been able to devote themselves to the arts, the pursuit of philosophy, and the free expression of religion. Government The Naga follow the half-God Elfath as well as the teaching and blessings of Asteria. The empire is split into region states at the bottom of the Splintered Coast, each ruled by a protectorate council. Here laws are passed through rigorous debate and discussion where the public can give their opinions on bills before they are passed. No central government leader exists, as the republic senate rules by the mass vote.
CHARACTERISTICS
Physical Elfath corrupted the Elves and Humans, transforming them to have gills and flippers and more fish-like appearances, although remaining a humanoid shape. In addition to gaining the ability to live underwater, they now had strength and physique far beyond ordinary creatures. Personality The deep folk are vicious to any who invade their territory. They are fiercely loyal to Elfath and hate him for the changes he has wrought upon them. They desire, above all else, to return to the aboveground. Talents In addition to gaining the ability to live underwater, the Naga also have strength and physique far beyond ordinary creatures. The pressure of the deep sea would crush a normal mortal, but the Naga have developed stronger bones to withstand the pressure.
