INTRODUCTION
The Faya-Aes is an independent magical ruling body that oversees the actions of mages and magical users across the Vathrian nations. In the Sovereign Shores Faya-Aes are one of the three significant powers within the western nation; the Sentinels and the Kings Church. King Abellon Brightborn as ruler of the entire Vathrian continent, He cannot functionally rule the entirety of the continent by himself and so he delegates the standard governing of the other nations to their own respective Kings, Queens and Lords. With Faya-Aes, they watch over the entire continent for magical practices, especially those considered dangerous. Considering the wide scale reach of the group, Faya-Aes does not only operate from the Sovereign Shores, indeed its own headquarters is located in Faymalia and has a direct link to the Falendria Academy of magic. The head of the academy, the Champion Trelladom, is one of the permanent sitting members of the Faya-Aes council.
CHARACTERISTICS
The Necessity of Regulation A magical regulatory body was not always necessary on the continent, magical use was for individual nations to manage, and even in the Current Age, still is. However the cataclysmic events in Sollovast during the Age of Freedom that created the Dreadlands prompted other nations to respond. Following the attack, nations attempted to go to Sollovast's aid but many of those rescue missions ended in death and terror and eventually south eastern land was left to itself. The magical community however held meetings and discussions across the years to ensure another Dreadlands event never happened again in the world. Faya-Aes was the solution. This was not decided to be a body that would regulate and decide what magical instruction Vathrian's could and could not learn, but acts more as a governance to help guide magical training. The school of Falendria in Faymalia welcomed this organization and offered the Academy itself as headquarters. Later during the Age of New Kingdoms, Thellen Brightborn would encourage the order split its time between Faymalia and the newly renamed Sovereign Shores. As the political power center of the continent Sovereign Shores and Baycrest were the perfect place for a magical regulatory body. The central belief is that regulation can help all Vathrian magical users to feel more secure in their education. The Frostfort Academy in the northern region of Mt.Mavak however decided not to join, declaring that while any and all were welcome to attend their school they felt no need for an authority to determine what they could or could not teach. The human magic users saw Faya-Aes as an Elven soft push to control magic on the continent. Faya-Aes claims it is and always shall be independent regardless of its majority members, but too many see the Elves as controlling.
HISTORY
Age of Freedom When the world learned of the event in Sollovast, there was unrest, panic and chaos across the continent. Any person or creature with magical talent felt the effects of the necromantic blast that wiped out Sollovast in a blinding moment and the response was immediate. The students and faculty of Falendria Academy tried to show calm though panic was ever-present behind the eyes, and the nations closer to Sollovast sent mages towards the border along with soldiers to try and ascertain what had happened. Few who ventured into Sollovast returned and those that did were never the same. The land was renamed the Dreadlands and slowly people began to understand that the Undead were now in control of this once great and powerful land. The rulers of the lands began to demand oversight, gone were the days of magic run amok and the mages tried to fight back. Debate turned to argument and argument finally turned to agreement. A regulatory body was necessary, and so Faya-Aes was born. Rules were sent to the magic schools across the continent, though for the most part they were ignored. In Faymalia, the Elves saw pride in their new creation seeing magic not necessarily as a power they held control over, but one that they felt most attuned to. They felt they had a responsibility to see it wielded correctly. Age of Invasion Faya-Aes was treated like any other branch of the continents military factions during the invasion as mages affiliated with the governing body were given orders to head to the front lines and fight the Demons. Regulation fell to the wayside as Necromancy and powerful demon magic was rife across the world. The Elves and Humans decided to fight first and consider magical consequences later, otherwise there may not be a Vathria to oversee. Age of New Kingdoms The magical world continued on in the years following the forming of the Dreadlands. Magic users went through periods of unrest and distrust but generally things began to heal. The demon invasions helped rebuild the trust in the hearts and minds of the common folk when seeing mages of all the schools rising up to protect those around them from the demons. It was the Age of New Kingdoms though where Faya-Aes had its first great political problem, and it all began when the Frostfort Academy of magic in Mt.Mavak decided to steal from the Elves. The War of the Arcane Gem Unlike the open nature and proud collaboration between Sovereign Shores and Faymalia in the running of Falendria Academy and the long standing magical alliance of Faya-Aes, Mt.Mavak's Frostfort College has always been relatively secret in its practices and research. The Falke family prefer not to share or discuss research beyond the walls of the college and have generally built a reputation of hoarding knowledge and as such, rejecting the oversight of Faya-Aes. Four mages deep within the bowels of the college came up with a plot, to steal a precious Arcane Gem and use it to bring glory back to Frostfort. It had to be done in secret, nobody in the upper ranks of the college could know, the Falke family would need to have deniability and so the plan was put into action. The director of Falendria, the Champion Trelladom, welcomed the delegation with open arms. To have mages of Frostfort attend the Elven lands was an honor. The honor however would be short-lived as not long after their arrival a great theft occurred. The Elves were in outrage as the mages of Frostfort Academy made away with their prize, though none from Mt.Mavak would ever acknowledge the fact. Faya-Aes were quick to blame and demand the return of the gem, though the Falke Family and ruling Mt.Mavak House Isdottir protested. There was no evidence and Faya-Aes had no jurisdiction. Their hands were tied and short of starting a continental war by bringing the Sentinels from Sovereign Shore, Faya-Aes decided to abstain from pressuring the Frostfort further. Despite Trelladom being both the director of Falendria and a member of regulatory authority, he saw there was nothing short of all Vathrian nations declaring war against Mt.Mavak, they could do nothing. Faymalia was on its own and went to war without the official backing of the magical authority. The Elves were fought to a stalemate and a bitter truce with the northerners. However the Arcane Gem, would not be seen again in Faymalia. The Current Age The organization suffered a major blow with the events of the Battle of the Arcane Gem and their credibility was lost. A regulator of magic could not handle the magical dispute between two nations without total war starting. In the Current Age, Faya-Aes still operates and still tries to oversee magical use across Vathria, however its reach has gradually shortened and its strength waned over time. These days it practically only holds power of magical use and learning in the Sovereign Shores and Faymalia. The Ages yet to come The histories of tomorrow are awaiting an author, one who would tell the stories of the heroes and events not yet known. Faya-Aes consider themselves integral to the magical stability and future of Vathria, though they seem ill equipped to handle the sheer magnitude of magical activity across the lands as the world changes. However those stories for now are unwritten and their outcomes unknown as the looming threat grows larger across Vathria. . .
