INTRODUCTION
The Eyes of the Forest are an extension of the Messenger, the most sacred roll within the Ulthran heartlands. The Messenger listens to the trees and hears the voice of Ulla, God of the forest and creator of the green of Ulthran and in turn the Eye carries out the Messengers tasks. They act as guardians of Ulthran committed to helping nature by any means necessary. Fara the previous Messenger suffered tragedy when the Champion Lorella, her former Eye of the forest abandoned her duty and transformed herself into something horrific. The Champion Aevra, and current Messenger uses her position and power to turn Ulthran into a more militant state that actively works against outsiders attempting to come into the forest region.
CHARACTERISTICS
The Eyes of the Forest see for the Messenger and use their sight to bring peace and harmony to Ulthran. They are the sword and shield of the forest, its protectors.
HISTORY
Age of Creation As the Gods came to Vathria and started terraforming the planet, the God Ulla took charge of the area known today as Ulthran. To aid in the creation of the forest, Ulla created the Champion Omamol, who traversed the land, spreading flora and plant life as she went, earning her the title 'Mother Tree'. War of the Seven Gods When the War of the Seven Gods broke out, Ulla was forced to engage with the battle. When the battle drew to a close and Mazaroth was finally defeated and sealed away, Ulla fell into an eternal slumber and starts to communicate telepathically with select members of the population. Age of Freedom Ulthran's capital city Nagundo was founded in the most densely populated area of the region early in this age. They remained largely ungoverned, and things started to become complicated until someone realized they had the ability to interpret Ulla's dreams. This led to a government being formed around this person, named the Messenger, and a simple set of laws were formed. Most of their laws concerned the protection of nature and treating the land around them with respect. Age of Invasion When the demonic invasion washed over Vathria, Ulthran remained largely protected as a result of the dense forest that made it up. The defenses of those within the forest fell on the druids, who lived closer to the outer edges and soon found themselves on the front line of battle against the demons when they penetrated Ulthran's borders. Together with the amazons, they based themselves in Tyndoth and fought back against the demons. During the battle with the demons, Omamol rooted herself into the forest in order to close its borders and prevent further attacks. Grand druids were also summoned to Nagundo to meet with the Messenger and discuss counterattack measures, and the demons were eventually driven back. Age of New Kingdoms During the Age of New Kingdoms, Thellen Brightborn's dreams of unifying the entire continent came to fruition. The uncharted region of Ulthran proved to be problematic - its lands were hard to navigate, and its people were isolated, seldom communicating with the outside world. The magical seal that prevents most access to the region forced his armies to enter Ulthran via the only open paths. His forces struggled to make it through the dense jungle and resorted to burning down sections of rainforest to progress deeper into the region. This angered the natives and the Messenger ultimately decided to put the protection of the forest before their political independence, signing a treaty with Sovereign Shores to end their destruction of the forest, agreeing to join the unified Vathria. The Eyes of the Forest were created to assist the Messenger at this time, an individual with the capability to oversee the forest and act as its protector. At times the Messenger might employ multiple Eyes to act on behalf of the trees, but traditionally Ulthran would see one Messenger and one Eye of the Forest acting in tandem. All the centuries and millennia that had passed since the Gods fell and in one undisturbed part of Ulthran a seed pod was discovered. Two of the Faery folk found the large pod and curiously opened it. Inside a young woman was born to a land that had long forgotten her. She was named Fara and she had the true power of listening to the trees. The true Messenger of the forest was born and she instinctively knew what her mission was. One of the Faeries the Champion Lorella, formed a close bond with Fara, the name chosen by this impossible woman born of the forest. She and Lorella worked tirelessly to do right by the trees and Fara made her the Eye of the Forest. Together they worked tirelessly to bring peace to Ulthran but in an act that many in the jungle disagreed with Fara decided to lift the magical barrier that sealed away the nation. With new sudden access to Ulthran along the entire border, new faces and groups begin to make their way into the forest. Hunters, schemers and poachers realize that Ulthran being open could be incredibly profitable. Lorella as the Eye of the Forest found herself with great burden but happiness also, for she had fallen in love with a Human. Jerem Isdottir had come to Ulthran on a great adventure and met the Faery as she journeyed through the forest. Together they fought off monsters and Harpies, falling for one another in a short space of time. Their love was not meant to last as Jerem returned to Mt.Mavak to take up the responsibility of being the Head of his House, marrying a woman of Mt.Mavak and providing the family with heirs. Lorella was heartbroken to learn of this betrayal and in her grief sought revenge. She underwent the demonization process with Daeros Vikoya, who used her vulnerability to have her murder Jerem and begin the rapid destabilization of House Isdottir. Fara was lost without her Eye, and retreated into the voice of Ulla for a sign. The Current Age Having listened to the will of Ulla Fara decided to act rashly, she rooted herself into the ground and using deep ancient magic, released the barrier that had separated Ulthran from the world for centuries. There was chaos in the forest as outsiders suddenly were able to enter as they pleased and the Champion Aevra, of the Druids, was furious. Since the borders were unsealed, many druids had come under attack from dwarves and their golems as well as many of the other nefarious factions that's decided on taking the bounty of Ulthran for their own. Fara would not buckle under the pressure and committed herself to the her actions. She had done what she felt was best, and followed the will of the trees that guided her. Fara, despite her title, found herself losing support as political tensions began to rise amongst the various factions in Ulthran. With the borders unsealed, the Druids and Amazons found themselves pushing back insurgents who would take advantage of the kingdom, and all pointed the blame at Fara. Aevra was often at the forefront of these criticisms, routinely demanding Fara turn back and reseal Ulthran. When Fara refused, Aevra took matters into her own hands and reawaked the Champion Omamol to put pressure on the Messenger. Ultimately this would be in vain for Fara was not destined to live. Fara against the advice of others decided to leave Ulthran to undertake a mission of extreme important along with the Faymalian Elf and Champion Celimene to track down Valim. Celimene had come to Ulthran seeking her sister the Champion Esmeray before she learned of a plot being put together by Valim to use the Sealing Stone for a nefarious purpose. Despite the limited information Fara agreed to help Celimene and the two set off into the Dreadlands. The forests of Ulthran wept uncontrollably as news spread of Fara's death. The Druid council had told the populace that Fara died protecting Ulthran but the truth could scarcely be understood by most. Valim killed her while she cradled the Sealing Stone to protect it from him. Celimene did what she could to save the Messenger but ultimately all she could do was bring her body back to the forest. The Sealing Stone had been kept safe from the forces of evil, but at the cost of Ulthran's greatest protector. All creatures of Ulthran mourned her loss, from the Nightsister Harpies of the Great Nest, to the Druids and Faeries and more. Her loss came as a great blow for once again the realm was without a voice that could interpret the will of Ulla. She died a Champion and all decided to move past her controversial decisions, except Aevra. The political council of Ulthran looked to end the uncertainty of a forest without a Messenger and selected the young Druid as Fara's replacement. Aevra accepted this charge and named Omamol as her Eye of the Forest, choosing to take a harsher approached than Fara in dealing with outsiders. The dreams of Fara of an Ulthran at peace with the rest of the world, for now, seemed impossible. The Ages yet to come The histories of tomorrow are awaiting an author, one who would tell the stories of the Championes and events not yet known. The Eyes of the Forest have faced all manner of incredible situations throughout the thousands of years in the forest. They are prepared to do what it takes to ensure Ulthran lasts thousands more. However for now, those stories are unwritten and the outcomes unknown as the looming threat grows larger across Vathria.
