INTRODUCTION
‘Through unity knowledge is preserved'
The grand Academy of Falendria was established following the end of the Age of the God Wars fighting consumed Vathria as lands were ripped asunder by new nations and dividing lines across the continent in the wake of the end of the Gods. Humans and Elves in an attempt to forge new cooperation's between Faymalia and the Sovereign Shores built the academy as an act of friendship and commitment to the future.
However, as time progressed Elven arrogance over teaching magic to other races prevented the academy from flourishing, as intolerance of other races grew the initial goal of Falendria Academy faded until Trelladom, the current Dean began to promote equality and reestablish friendship in magic with other races.
CHARACTERISTICS
The Falendria Creed
United we stand, the bonds that tie us, we the mages of Falendria are joined in the common goal of learning. Within our halls we are not of the world of Human or Elven Kind. Cast aside our allegiances of old as we embrace one another, become one another, and pledge ourselves to the pursuit of the mystical arts.
HISTORY
Age of Freedom
In the Age of Freedom, the Elves of Faymalia suffered a terrible event. They went to war with the Trolls, cousins created by Elara before the Elves and deemed unworthy of her attention following the creation of the Elves. The peace between the two races was uneasy and not meant to last with the Trolls raising a rebellion against their Elven overlords who they felt treated them as second class citizens. They launched their attack, a brutal campaign of violence, which the Elves perhaps in their arrogance had not been prepared for. Despite the Elven military tactics, great magical abilities and access to better weapons technology than the Trolls could muster, the Trolls exceeding the Elves in numbers. They overwhelmed the Wood Elves and High Elves of the nation forcing them to the outskirts while the great Troll Empire began in earnest. Troll society began to flourish and they developed grand settlements quickly as well as art, and studied magic. Trolls saw their own dark history of abandonment as something that gave them power to continue on. This darkness they believed gave them strength and they channeled that strength into the practice of dark magic. The Elves saw it as abhorrent, their home was being corrupted and poisoned by the filth of dark magic and they decided the time was right to fight back. The Elves could not stand by and allow this darkness to grow in the lands Elara had created. The Elves planned and enacted their counterattack on the Troll kingdom. Their attacks were both violent and swift, but they were unable to deal with the huge troll population. Fortunately for them, during their times on the outskirts of the region, the Elves had come into greater contact with other races, especially the Humans of Vathria who had settled to the west of Faymalia having left Sollovast. They began to form friendships, and later alliances with the people of the Prosperous Shores, offering them magical instruction in exchange for their help in overthrowing the Trolls. Together the elves and Humans waged a bloody war against the Trolls and overwhelmed them. Forced to scatter in different directions, the majority of the Trolls fled Faymalia while the Elves regained control of their forest kingdom. The Human-Elven alliance was greatly celebrated and a decision was made to solidify the bond between the races. The magical school of Falendria Academy was built on the border of Faymalia and Prosperous Shores, welcoming new mages of either race to join and learn together. The Trolls were not invited.
Humans still new to magic were taught by the more advanced Elven professors, and Elven students would routinely outshine their Human counterparts causing natural divides. Though it would not take long for the imbalance to shift and within a few decades and hardworking Human mages would show their strength and talents in magic also. The initial goal of the Academy it seemed was successful, however factions slowly began to grow within the walls of Falendria as racial intolerance took hold and jealously of the Human advances in magic. It did not take long for the cracks to show and soon the original belief of a place where Humans and Elves could learn together was shattered. Late into the Age of Freedom, a High Elf student at the Academy named Trelladom and son of the Dean showed promise in his studies. It was common knowledge at the time between classmates that a professor of prestigious course within the academy would step down upon the conclusion of the semester. Trials began to see who could show off their magical prowess and take the position, to advance from student to teacher at the Academy. Trelladom was confident in his abilities and narrowly came out ahead during the final trial against a Wood Elf classmate. Elven racial tensions and the general racial divides at the academy at this time were in full force and upon Trelladom's victory his classmate Kallidor promptly left the Academy of Falendria in shame and defeat declaring the competition and its result a farce. Despite Trelladom's celebration in victory he felt uncertain as in the final moments of their trial Kallidor may have had the upper hand. His father confirmed his suspicions and made it clear to Trelladom that while Kallidor may have been marginally the better mage and student, he was also just a Wood Elf. That Trelladom was a High Elf mattered to the Academy despite its creed. Trelladom was promised the mantle and position of Dean upon his father's retirement but this did not pacify the High Elf. He took time from the Academy to seek out Kallidor and to try to understand the racial divides between the races at the Academy and in the world. His eyes were opened, the truth revealed to him in the ugliest of ways. He would find Kallidor again, humbled and happier now free from the elitism of Falendria, Trelladom was gifted with purpose. With his Fathers retirement Trelladom was promoted from teacher to Dean of the entire academy and with that elevation in station came sweeping reforms. Long hidden from others Trelladom had worked hard on his efforts to change the Academy of Falendria from what it had become to what it was always intended to be. His reforms came swiftly and once more strength of unity and the bonds of friendship between the races of Vathria were promoted. The factions began to crumble and the Academy became a beacon of good, a place of power, knowledge and hope.
Age of Invasion
Factions and jealousy fell to the wayside as the invasions began. When the Demons erupted into Vathria via the gateway Falendria Academy went to war. Trelladom and the joined efforts of the Elven Council and leaders of Prosperous Shores began to make war preparations to combat this new threat. Elven and Human mages were sent to the battle fields to provide support and aid, wielding their magic to lay tactics of shock and awe directly at the enemy. It was not enough and despite the significant victories of the Falendria mages, the Demons continued to flood through the portal. As the Dwarves joined the war effort and the combined forces of the Vathrian continent lend themselves to the alliance, a new plan was put into place to end the threat once and for all by forging a weapon, the great and powerful Holy Sword. The Dwarves built it deep below the mountain forging it from their most precious ores and the Archmages of Falendria poured all their strength into the blade and entrusted the Gems of the Gods to the Dwarves to adorn the sword. Aldren Brightborn used it against the portal and shut down the Demon invasion at the cost of his own life. The mages of Falendria and Trelladom breathed a sigh as they celebrated Aldren and all those who had died.
Age of New Kingdoms
Thellen Brightborn marched across the continent under his banner of unification. He had an audacious idea, to unite all nine realms of the land under his rule. Faymalia as a long standing ally of Prosperous Shores joined with Thellen and their alliance grew stronger than ever before. The unification mattered little at firs to Falendria Academy, though as more nations agree to unite, Trelladom saw that more people from other regions of the land wished to make the journey to Falendria and study at the academy. Trelladom was delighted and felt that with unification, Falendria Academy could finally achieve the dream made millennia ago to be a place where anyone could freely learn magic.
Falendria was not the only school of magic on the continent. To the north in Mt.Mavak was Frostfort Academy, a rival school that focused on the magic of the cold elements. For years Frostfort had gone through incredible stagnation as fewer new mages chose to make the trip there to study and the amount of active research dried up. In secret, Archmages deep in the bowels of the college put in place a plan to steal the Elven Gem, gift to the land of Faymalia following Aldrens death and the sealing of the portal. The Gem was hosted at Falendria and the Frostfort Archmages used this fact to their advantage. Trelladom was fooled into welcoming a delegation from the college to Falendria. The mages of Frostfort came under the guise of magical collaboration and a sharing of knowledge. The Human Elf school were excited to finally learn the secrets of Frostfort and could not consider their true motives. The theft was successful and the mages escaped Faymalia, whisking the Gem back to Mt.Mavak. The Faymalians were outraged with accusations aimed at Frostfort falling on deaf ears. Trelladom as the head of the Faya-Aes magical alliance complained to House Isdottir, the rulers of Mt.Mavak and demanded the Gem returned, though House Isdottir knew nothing of the theft and when questioned, all at Frostfort denied the allegations. War broke out between the two nations, which threatened to spill out to a Vathrian wide war. Falendria but not Faya-Aes fought for the return of the Gem of Faymalia, the distinction was important. Faya-Aes was the governing magical body that encompassed multiple nations including Sovereign Shores. For their involvement, King Brightborn would need to also authorize the deployment of Sentinels north, something that most admitted would plunge Vathria into a terrible war against Mt.Mavak where no one would come out the victor.
The war went on for a number of years, with small and sometimes large scale skirmishes occurring though ultimately the side of Mt.Mavak and Frostfort were victorious. The Elves and Falendria agreed to a peace treaty but the Elven Gem would never be seen in Faymalia again.
The Current Age
The Hero Alenfier and his best friend and Hero Maroflee were students of Falendria, growing stronger together as mages. Despite their young age, they both showed great promise however divides started to resent themselves for Maroflee who studied with a deep unrevealed secret inside her. At a young age she had witnessed her parent's murders and longed to see them once more. She dedicated herself to magic in the efforts to make that a reality no matter the cost. Deep in the basement libraries of Falendria she came across a forbidden text that called to her soul. A book of necromancy. Alenfier tried to reason with the young woman but she would not listen. As time went by she gave herself fully to the book and to its teachings. They would fight and she would flee, using her power and position to make her way to the Dreadlands to learn more from the tome of Undead magic. In a final and epic battle, Maroflee was consumed entirely by the book and transformed from the living into an Undead Lich, a great sorcerer of necromancy. She used her powers to take years of life from Alenfier and he awoke, alone and old vowing that somehow he would try to get his friend back or die trying.
The Ages yet to come
The histories of tomorrow are awaiting an author, one who would tell the stories of the heroes and events not yet known. Falendria Academy has overcome incredible challenges during its years of operation with great and terrible discoveries made behind its walls. There are still all manners of new things to be learned at the college, however those stories for now are unwritten and their outcomes uncertain as the looming threat grows larger across Vathria. . .
